Dear OGR Team,
Greetings from the Chandler SDA Church in Chandler Arizona. My name is Elder John Mosley. I am the Lay Assistant Pastor of the Chandler Church. I have the wonderful privilege of spearheading the OGR meeting within our two-church district. I'd like to share with everyone how we have decided to proceed with our meetings with the hope that others may also be blessed.
After studying over the theme sheets ahead of time, I decided that a cursory treatment of them would not do them justice, as they are well thought out and contain a significant amount of material that the spiritual mind needs to wrap around. Moreover, I wanted to have very focused and specific praying that avoided so much repetition and restatement of certain things. So, the same Holy Spirit that we want to rain on us, rained this idea on me:
1. Open with 1 song and prayer. 2. The leader reads the first segment of the theme sheet (first paragraph or bible verse--divide the sheet up into bite-size sections). 3. The leader engages the group in a discussion (no more than 5-6 minutes) of the segment in order to arrive at a clear meaning of what was written, its relevance to us, and how it can before real in our daily lives. 4. (MOST IMPORTANT PART) Prayer-Points are identified that zero in on specific areas of discussion. 5. A prayer session ensues where no more than 3 people pray in a focused way on the prayer points the group arrived at collectively. The rest pray silently in support of these points or others that the Spirit reveals to them personally. 6. Then another person (vary the people-men, women, youth) picks up the next segment of the theme sheet, reads it and engages the group in another discussion which will lead to a second set of 3-4 prayer points. In this way 3 to 4 different faces are seen and voices heard leading the discussion and several prayer session can occur.
We continued this process until we had covered the entire sheet. We had 4 very helpful, uplifting, Spirit charged prayer sessions as a result. We left the meeting encouraged, refreshed and feeling quite empowered to live out in our daily life what we had petitioned the throne for.
This, by no means, is a blue print for everyone. But, it did make our hour and 15 minutes fully engaging. We hardly felt we had started and it was time to go. By the way, after we dismissed, the members stayed behind and shared with each other, fellowshipping in the Spirit and encouraging each other in the Lord. It was wonderful to just sit in the back of the church and watch them in the after-glow of the Spirit. I look forward to the rest of the nights.
God bless,
J. Mosley |
